The anti-aging properties of Acacetin
The phytomolecule Acacetin
7 extracted from Premna integrifolia was
tested for its antiaging effects in worms. The research study observed
significant lifespan changes occuring at the genetic level. The
study came to the conclusion that this phytomolecule may alleviate
age-related pathologies.

Acacetin 7-O-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl (1-2) β-D-xylopyranoside Elicits Life-span Extension and Stress Resistance in Caenorhabditis elegans.
A 25 lM dose of Acacetin significantly prolonged the mean lifespan of worms by 27.31% in comparison to control. Additionally, Acacetin enhanced stress resistance against oxidative and thermal stress and attenuated age related intracellular ROS levels. The enhanced stress resistance, lifespan and alleviation of age related pathology can be attributed to increment in stress modulatory enzymes like superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) levels. Altogether the results suggest Acacetin maintains stress level, health span and extends mean lifespan.

Acacetin is the major component of the traditional Chinese medicine -- Snow lotus-- which grows at 4,000 meters elevation in western part of Tianshan Mountain, Xinjiang China. The major pharmaceutical values of "Snow lotus" are alleviating rheumatoid arthritis, accelerating blood circulation, treating inflammation-associated disorders. Recent studies show "Snow lotus" possessed therapeutic effects associating with anti-cancer, anti-oxidation, adipogenesis suppression and neuroprotection activities. Because this anti-aging herb grows at exteme altitude, it may be one of the anti-aging herbs utlized by the ancient taoist masters who lived hundreds of years in the mountains.

Acacetin is also found in the yellow flower called damiana. Damiana is an herb that can create a pleasantly mild euphoria in waking life and enhance sexual energy, and in dreamland is believed to create more vivid imagery. Some claim it helps them induce lucid dreams (lucid dreaming is a sign that a herbal substance has longevity benefits).

Damiana also contains the anti-aging substances apigenin 7-glucoside and pinocembrin.
Apigenin is a yellow crystalline solid used to dye wool and is found in parsley, celery, celeriac, and chamomile tea and chamomile flowers.
