Scientifically Proven Methods that Boost Human Growth Hormone Naturally

Use Niacin to Boost HGH

When we are young our bodies naturally have an adequate supply of Human Growth Hormone (Human Growth Hormone is commonly called HGH for short).  HGH is secreted from the pituitary gland, a small pea sized object buried deeply inside our head.  As we grow older, less and less HGH is secreted. This is due to such factors as the inability to sleep 8 hours a night, diet, lack of exercise and lifestyle.  The famous herbalist Li Ching-Yuen, who is reputed to have lived to 250 years, stated one of the reasons he lived so long was because he "slept like a dog". It is a confirmed scientific fact that deep, peaceful sleep releases healthy amounts of HGH (which is secreted by our pituitary gland as we sleep).  Numerous scientific studies over the decades have proven that having adequate levels of HGH in the body keeps healthy and lean. Even through there are a few herbs that help the body's secretion of HGH, and few scientific studies to confirm this, there are multiple scientific studies confirming deep sleep to increased HGH production. Towards the end of this article we shall examine the herbs scientifically proven to boost Human Growth Hormone Levels. One excellent example of how adequate levels of HGH can positively affect the elderly is in the lifestyle of Dr. Life. The photos below show Dr. Life before increased HGH (the photo on the left) and the photo on the right is after increased levels of HGH. By the way as of 2015, Dr. Life is 73 years old.

The Deep Sleep Secret

There is much wisdom in the saying "Get Your Beauty Sleep". It is a fact that deep sleep is essential to long life and health due to the body releasing adequate levels of HGH hormone, which can only be achieved with getting the proper hours of sleep each night. One of the best ways to induce deep sleep is through the herb Passion Flower.  Passion flower helps the body produce the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Scientists from the Harvard School of Medicine, MA, and the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, NY discovered that a specific neuron in our  brainstem makes the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).  The amazing discovery was that GABA is responsible for inducing deep sleep. (1) Let's dive into the scientific evidence to examine the claims of HGH further:

How Aging Contributes to a Decline in HGH

Once a person reaches 45 years of age, most people have almost entirely lost their ability to generate healthy levels of deep sleep. In conclusion, the process of aging in middle aged men could be partly attributed to low levels of growth hormone caused by not being able to sleep the required number of hours each night. Now it is a fact that people over 40 years of age who receive proper doses of HGH will start to look and feel young again.  HGH can even be administered via injection, but works even better when the person has a healthy diet along with exercise.  As shown earlier with photos of Dr. Life who is now 73 years of age, but biologically is 24 years of age, you will know that HGH is truly a miraculous substance. The good news also is that you don't need to spend thousands of dollars each month on HGH injections to experience the benefits of increased HGH.  All it takes is a minor modification in diet and lifestyle and a little self discipline. A well studied method scientifically proven to help the body naturally produce Human Growth Hormone is by intermittent fasting. (2a) By fasting every now and than you also gain additional advantages such as a lowered blood sugar and improved digestion. A good fast schedule to follow is between 6 and 12 hours two to three times weekly. Be sure to drink plenty of water while fasting as it also flushes the body clean of toxins. After reading numerous books and information on increasing HGH levels naturally, they all have the same thing in common, and that is HGH levels will increase if the following lifestyle is followed:

  • Decreased blood glucose levels. (reducing sugar intake)
  • A diet low in carbohydrates
  • At certain times drinking lots of healthy water (spring water is best not city faucet water)
  • Increased protein diet (especially proteins obtained from plants such as spirulina or Tofu).
  • A decrease in free fatty acids
  • More levels of PGE (the good cicosanoid)
  • The proper level of deep sleep (Stage IV sleep)
  • The proper amount and type of exercise
  • Fasting. (or having your body go through phases of light fasts anywhere between 4 and 6 hours 2 to 3 times weekly)

Human Growth Hormone and Sleep

In one of the the largest studies ever conducted (2), University of Chicago researcher Eve Van Cauter discovered that men transitioning from early adulthood into mid-life slept less, which caused their body to produce less HGH. Eve discovered that the first stages of sleep deterioration caused by aging occurs between young adulthood (between the ages of 16 and 25) and into mid-life (from ages 35 to 50). The study concluded that the total amount of sleep remained constant as the young adults transitioned into mid-life.  However Eve discovered that their deep sleep decreased almost 20 percent less to a normal night's sleep for those younger than ages 25 to less than 5% for those who were more than 35 years of age. Eve also discovered that HGH, which is secreted the most during deep sleep, declined up to 75 percent.

Scientific research (3) has shown that HGH is secreted strongest during stages III and IV of the sleep cycle. Stages III and IV are the very first one to two hours before we enter deep sleep each night. The best way to get to these stages is to be sure you get a sound and deep sleep each night. During spring go to bed earlier than usual and awaken earlier than usual and during fall go to bed a little later than usual and get up a little later. This maintains a healthy sleep cycle in tune with the 2 major seasons.

Human Growth Hormone and Exercise

Another method to acquire more HGH is via exercise, but not just any type of exercise will do. Research studies have shown that resistance training exercise, such as weight lifting, causes the body to build up more HGH (3a), which is than released via our pituitary gland.  This is because as the weight is lifted, the muscles undergo nano sized "tears" that take place as the muscle is stretching. The result of these miniature tears causes the body to secrete HGH, which is used to repair the nano sized "tears". This effect is much like red blood cells being called forth to fend off an infection in the body. (4) (5) (6). As a positive side effect, when HGH is repairing the small tears in the muscle, new muscle growth becomes stimulated.

A very important feature not to overlook when you are increasing your HGH levels is to remember that any period after physical activity (such as immediately after exercising or just before bedtime), that you are about to take a rest, it is extremely important to avoid eating foods high in sugar or foods high in carbohydrates. When excessively sugary or heavily carbohydrate laden foods are taken before a rest or immediately after exercising they cause an elevation of blood glucose in our bodies. Elevated blood glucose levels naturally inhibit the natural release of HGH and increased blood glucose levels are one of the number one factors that contribute to aging. (6a) From my experience, only during the winter I will usually have slightly more carbohydrate laden foods and sugary foods because they help keep my body warm and boost the immune system, but come summer, I take the bare minimum. This is because during summer, foods with excessive starches can cause Anemia, which can lead to fatigue.

Additional factors that restrict the body's secretion of HGH

  • Pregnancy
  • Obesity
  • Increased blood glucose levels and in increased free fatty acids

Tips for Increasing HGH Levels While Exercising

Research has shown that HGH is secreted the most just before we finish exercising and again immediately afterwards.  As just mentioned it is key to avoid sugar laden power bars or avoid drinking fruit juice before or after a workout. When working out drink only healthy water such as spring water or purified water. Allow your body to mini fast beforehand some days prior to working out.  This temporary minor stress put on your body from lack of food is beneficial to your body.  Also try to avoid eating an hour or so after working out. Your meal some days should be protein rich and have plenty of amino acids which your HGH will be using to repair your muscles.

Which Types Of Resistance Exercises Work Best to Stimulate HGH?

Resistance exercises are also known as Weight Training. A recommended book for weight training is Dr. Bob Arnott's Guide to Turning Back the Clock, written by Robert Arnott M.D (published by little brown and company). Just follow the exercise instructions and ignore the nutritional part of the book for best results.

To begin your resistance program use the following tips:

When first starting out, begin with light weights by focusing on the ligaments, tendons and connective tissue around the joints (the weak points, which will slowly strengthen over time). After doing the light weights for a number of weeks and you feel that your joints are strong enough, it is time to begin serious muscle training. Start by working your largest and thickest muscles first. This can include push-ups, working the thighs, shoulders, buttocks and chest areas. This is because only a 5% increase in size in these muscle groups creates more metabolic firepower than the same percentage increase working on the smaller and individual groups of muscles, which can be sculpted later on. Keeping your back as straight as possible, work and strengthen these muscle groups while focusing on achieving form. If you intuitively feel you may be working out harder than usual, than plan to consume more protein than usual an hour or so after your workout. Be absolutely certain to avoid the temptation to consume heavily laden carbohydrate snacks before, during or after your workout.  I personally use a herbal formula for energy and endurance called the sod mix.  You can learn how to make your own SOD mix by viewing our herbal formula page.Remember your workout is focusing on building power more so than building strength. Aim for your workout to consist of 80% power and 20% strength.

What is the Difference between Strength and Power?

Strength represents how much you are able to lift and Power represents how quickly you are able to lift it.  The faster you can lift with minimal effort, the more you are at an advantage to building a very lean and healthy physique. This is why QI Gong masters who have learned to harvest and utilize Chi energy are able to move so quickly and rapidly, because they have mastered the art of building power.  The destructive force of a bullet comes from its powerful speed, not its strength.  When you lift weights, you are developing power by increasing the speed at which the weight is lifted, than you increase the weight.

For example, say you are doing four sets of ten reps with a certain weight, than you would start out performing them slowly focusing on form. Next you would gradually increase the speed using the same weight until you can quickly lift that weight briskly through all your sets. Now that you have mastered this, you move onto a slightly heavier weight and repeat the process, starting slowly at first and gradually increasing the speed. If you feel yourself becoming exhausted than reduce the weight you are working with. Also another thing that can lead to depletion of HGH is excessive running such as 50 miles a week.  That may be good for your ego, but it really offers no HGH building benefits over the long term, instead your valuable HGH is burned up in muscle recovery, rather than the rejuvenative effects it offers.

What if my new routine creates a lack of energy?

Being vegetarian I did have a lack of energy for a few weeks, which I resolved by eating more cottage cheese than usual and taking an enhanced formula made from a carnosine supplement called overnight rejuvenessence, which you can make it yourself. Also my SOD herbal formula is a great way to give me plenty of energy on demand throughout the day without having to worry about a sugar crash later on. I also eat lots of raisins and at the new moon sunflower seeds, which have been shown to increase HGH when taken during the new moon as discussed in a previous article titled: Hormones, Perception and How they Contribute to Longevity and Health.

The prize awating you after you have survived the "energy drain" period, which is really your body going through an adjustment/normalization period, your body comes out at the end of the adjustment period with more endurance, and the ability to go further while eating less. This is because the foods you are now consuming actually increase the amount of oxygen flowing to your muscles. In other words your body is now using the energy obtained from food much more efficiently. To avoid this "energy crash" it is key that you don't begin your new exercise regime until about a week after you begin your new carbohydrate restricted diet. This is because it takes a while for your body to get used to having less carbohydrates in it. After a few days or a week you will notice your breathlessness subsiding and your endurance increasing.

What will I Look Like?

Don't worry, you won't look scrawny and wasted. This is because the new HGH that will be secreted will have sculpted your body to that of what it felt like when you were a teenager.  Also your body will be at a new weight and your biological age will be greatly reduced. (you may be 54 years of age, but biologically you will be 35). Viewing the before and after photos of Dr. Life are a perfect example of before and after HGH increases.

So to summarize what we've learned:

  • HGH creates new body tissues, builds lean body mass, mobilizes your fat stores and it also shifts your metabolism into a potent healthy fat burning fuel source.
  • It is a fact adults can access just as much HGH as a teenager, it just takes a little effort to release it.
  • The best exercise to release HGH is resistance exercise. (allowing your muscles to work against a weight to the point of nearing healthy exhaustion).
  • Avoiding carbohydrate and sweet laden foods just before a workout, during and right after.
  • When doing your resistance training, move rapidly from one set to the next and avoid long rest periods in-between.

How to Reduce the Bad Fats in Steak

If you are a meat eater here is a handy trick to remove all the unhealthy fat from your steak. Trim all the visible fat from the steak and place in a zip lock bag with a mixture of 1 cup of red wine and 1 cup of olive oil or light sesame oil or any oil that is ALA FREE.  Next place in your refrigerator or ice chest and allow the meat to marinate in this sauce for 24 hours and flip the bag every 6 hours. Next take out the steak, drain it for an hour and discard the sauce.  Next rub in some pepper or other spices and place on your grill.  The taste will be unbelievable. What's happening is the wine acts as a solvent to leach out the saturated fat.  This unhealthy saturated fat is replaced by the healthy monounsaturated fat in the olive oil or other ALA free oil.  You use this same method with roasts, however the bad cholesterol effect is not as reduced because you are roasting and not grilling. AA is an unhealthy fat and is located in an animals fatty tissue, which is why you should trim the fat off of your steaks.  Also grass fed meat contains much less AlA fat. Grain fed animals also have more insulin stimulated in them, especially higher levels of eicossanoids .

Peak Levels of Geomagnetic Activity and HGH secretion

From my research over the years of taking foods high in plant proteins, as well as anti-aging herbal compounds before going to bed, I have discovered that during the period of higher geomagnetic activity (KP levels between 3 and 4), that the next morning I wake up stronger and with more energy.  Because HGH is emitted during deep sleep, does this mean higher geomagnetic activity (the levels between 3 and 4) are influencing the pituitary gland?   Let's take a look at the scientific evidence: In a Russian study researchers discovered that hormones were affected during periods of higher geomagnetic activity.

Quote: "Thus it was shown for the first time that at high geographical latitudes with increased level of GMA a significant change in the level of secretion of several hormones leads to the type of adaptive stress reaction" (7)

Now what is interesting about this study is that it focused on the blood concentration of adrenal hormones (cortisol) and thyroid hormones (triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine T4). The hormone cortisol increases as one gets older. Research has shown that the elderly secrete more cortisol than younger people. (7a)

The second hormone, thyroxine, is the main hormone that is secreted into your bloodstream by the thyroid gland. It plays vital roles in digestion, heart and muscle function, brain development and maintenance of bones. This is the hormone we want at healthy levels in our bodies.  Research has shown that when we experience chronic stress, our adrenal glands, or the tiny glands that moderate the stress response as well as regulate other the adrenal glands, mobilize your body's responses to every kind of stress. (7b)

The hormone Thyroxine is released throughout the body by a feedback loop system that uses the pituitary gland. As your hypothalamus secretes thyrotropin, it stimulates your pituitary gland to produce the thyroid stimulating hormone. This hormone than stimulates your production of the thyroid hormone thyroxine, which is emitted by the thyroid gland. If you have too much thyroxine in your bloodstream it may cause the thyroid gland to become overactive, leading to Graves' disease, inflammation of the thyroid or a benign tumor. Excess thyroxine in the body can be recognized by a swelled neck  intolerance to heat, increased appetite, weight loss, increased bowel movements, irregular menstrual cycle, rapid or irregular heartbeat, palpitations, tiredness, irritability, tremor, hair loss and retraction of the eyelids resulting in a ‘staring’ appearance. If there is too little thyroxine in the body, than the body becomes susceptible to autoimmune diseases.

If we take a closer look at the Russian study on Hormones and Geomagnetic Activity we see that during June and October when geomagnetic storms were at high levels, there was an increase in cortisol concentrations.  When the thyroxine levels were measured, there was a drop in them during June during periods of higher geomagnetic activity.  Remember these are the seasons as they occurred in Russia. In Russia, June happens to be the start of the summer season.

As we covered earlier at the beginning of this chapter, the herb Passion Flower causes deep sleep. This is due to its high levels of beta-carbolines.  Beta-carbolines are also present in high levels of the plant Syrian Rue. I hypothesize that because these herbs cause deep sleep, due to the beta-carbolines, than perhaps during certain periods of geomagnetic activity the synthesis of beta-carbolines may occur more often during times of higher geomagnetic activity.

Passionflower also contains Anthocyanins. Passion flower has been proven to lower blood pressure. A 2013 animal study published in the  “Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry established that passion flower can help reduce high blood pressure.  The study established that compounds of Anthocyanins a natural stem cell building antioxidant which I wrote a book on titled: Foods, Herbs and Pharmaceuticals that Extend Lifespan. This makes it a powerful anti aging, longevity herb. I have found extremely powerful effects can be obtained mixing 4 drops of jiagloun or Ginseng tincture with passion flower tea.

So in summary, I believe that geomagnetic storms are having an effect on certain hormones in the body, which in turn are affecting the pituitary gland. By taking higher levels of Vitamins A, E and plant proteins during these stronger periods of geomagnetic activity, can help keep our hormones balanced.

A herbal formula that some people have used to induce deep sleep is made up of the following:

2 parts Kava

2 parts Fresh Valerian root

1 part Gotu Kola

1 part Passionflower

1 part Skullcap

1 part Lobelia

Make the above into a tincture which you can find in my book titled: The Official Guidebook of How to Make Tinctures. Take a few drops of the tincture before bed. If you don’t want to make the above into a tincture, you can mix the herbs with 16 oz water and 11 oz of vegetable glycerin and combine in a jar. This formula is gentle enough to be used on children.

Carnosine and Human Growth Hormone

I am a big fan of carnosine, because so many studies have shown it to be a beneficial anti-aging substance.  As of 2015 there have been over 200 published scientific papers on the many positive effects carnosine has on the body, not to mention an excellent way for vegetarians to get extra energy in the absence of a diet without meat.  The anti-aging and energetic effects from carnosine are from its amino acids and proteins. Let's take a look a few scientific studies. In a study titled: Hormonal responses to resistance exercise after ingestion of carnosine and anserine, (10) scientists studied the effects of ingesting chicken breast to study whether the high carnosine content in the chicken breast increased human growth hormone levels. The study concluded that short-term supplementation attenuated growth hormone responses.

So in summary, taking the right amino acids and proteins such as carnonsine help offset the negative effects caused during higher periods of geomagnetic activity. It is important to take protein with Vitamin A so that it becomes properly absorbed by the body. This means if you are on a low protein diet, you may be deficient in Vitamin A. Vitamin A is necessary for proper hormone distribution throughout the body. Research studies have shown that if the body is low in Vitamin A, it looses the ability to produce the thyroid-stimulating hormone. (8) (9).  A sign of decreased vitamin A in the body is sensitivity to bright lights.

Green Tea and Human Growth Hormone

As mentioned in the previous chapter concerning Carnosine, when it is mixed with Vitamin D3 and Green tea, it creates a synergy, and in recent major scientific studies involving large human trials it has shown to be of benefit to elderly people with cognitive decline.(11) Once again, I believe that this is due to the green tea helping to increase and activate the absorption of the proteins and amino acids in the carnosine.  This means that skeletal and cognitive repair is best accomplished through amino acids such as carnosine. In a February 2013 scientific study published in "Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry" along with a similar animal study published in August 2011 titled "Human and Experimental Toxicology" (11a) the researchers found that high-dose catechins (which are common in teas) actually decreased levels of thyroid hormone in the blood of rats by causing an enlargement of their thyroid glands.  So green tea in moderate amounts is actually good for you and when combined with amino acid is it used to its best potential.

Carnosine not only helps boost memory but is also an excellent anti-inflammatory (12).  The question is, can the anti-inflammatory effects of Carnosine also help with inflammation of the thryoid? Let's examine the scientific evidence. In a research study titled; "APPLICATION OF CARNOSINE PATCH IMPROVES CELLULAR PHYSIOLOGICAL STATUS IN DIFFERENT ORGANS", (13) researchers applied a skin patch that contained carnosine over the skin of volunteers.   After 14 days the volunteers showed a very significant improvement in their pancreas, liver, right kidney, left and right adrenals, hypothalamus, pituitary and thyroid glands with an average statistical power of at least 95% . This leads one to assume that the effects of carnosine on the body create a healthy hypothalamus, pituitary and thyroid gland system. This would once again lead one to conclude that the amino acids in the carnosine are helping to stimulate the pituitary gland.  At the Sports Medicine Unit of the Endocrine Research Laboratory in Italy researchers performed a pituitary stimulation test using an amino acid mixture solution to see if it stimulated the volunteers pituitary gland.  The study concluded that indeed the amino acids did stimulate the pituitary gland. (14)

The Amino Acid Arginine

In a scientific study titled Growth Hormone, Arginine and Exercise (15), researchers discovered that the amino acid Arginine increased Human Growth Hormone and when it was combined with exercise created even more human growth hormone.  I have been advocating the use of Sesame Seeds for years in my articles.

So once again we see a connection between amino acids and Human Growth Hormone Levels.

Glycerophosphocholine

Also called GPC, this substance has been scientifically proven to enhance memory and brain function and its main purpose is to maintain healthy brain function, especially as a person gets older. In a scientific research study titled "Glycerophosphocholine enhances growth hormone secretion and fat oxidation in young adults (16)" researchers discovered that just a single dose of GPC increased growth hormone secretion as well as provided an increase in choline levels.  The research study also found an increase in growth hormone concentration 60 minutes after ingestion of GPC capsules compared to the placebo. For those of you familiar with my books, Choline is a powerful brain health tonic and what is also interesting is 100 grams of sesame seeds contain approximately 26mg of Choline and Sesame Seeds happen to be one of the foods highest in the amino acid Arginine (source: http://nutritiondata.self.com/). Other foods high in Choline include Tofu and Beans.

Also research is showing that the body actually produces more glycerophosphocholine when the body's stores of Choline are running low. According to SmarterNooTropics.com Choline is created when the brain is rich in choline, and GPC choline is created when choline is scarce.  So in summary, we don't want to take too much glycerophosphocholine, but just the right amount so as to get the most out of it. This is much like putting the body through a fast to increase HGH levels. Does this mean that the increase in Choline is coming from increased HGH levels?  Further study needs to confirm this.

Bovril - The Beef Extract used to Help Napoleon Win Wars

I have read in a few bodybuilding forums that bodybuilders have used the beef extract Bovril for muscle mass and to improve their muscle tone.  The beef extract named Bovril, which is commonly used as a flavoring for foods such as stews and soups consists of a thick gelatinous consistency that is easily diluted with water. Bovril has been found to increase Human Growth Hormone Levels.  In a research study titled: "Comparison of Serum Growth Hormone Levels after Bovril and Insulin Stimulation" (16a) researchers found that HGH levels increased when Bovril was Administered.

In 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War, Napoleon the third ordered one million cans of beef to feed his troops. However due to the large number he sought the help of a Scotsman in Canada named John Lawson Johnston. To fill this order Johnston created a new form of beef known as 'Johnston's Fluid Beef', which was later changed to Bovril. By 1888 here were over 3,000 British public houses, grocers and chemists selling Bovril.

An interesting feature is that Bovril beef tea was the main drink used by Ernest Shackleton's team when they were marooned on Elephant Island near the south pole during their Endurance Expedition from 1914 to 1917. Bovril is made in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire; owned and distributed by Unilever UK. Some people have added it to their Oatmeal for a significant energy boost and to relieve fatigue.

Methods to Receive Greater Effects from Choline

In a research study titled: "Combined uridine and choline administration improves cognitive deficits in spontaneously hypertensive rats" (17)  researchers discovered that when choline was mixed with uridine, it improved selective attention and spatial learning.

Now what happens if we combine Resveratrol with Choline?   In a research study titled: "Citicoline (CDP-choline) increases Sirtuin 1 expression concomitant to neuroprotection in experimental stroke," (18)  when researchers mixed Resveratrol with Choline they discovered it created a strong synergistic neuroprotective effect, especially for those prone to stroke.

Foods high in Resveratrol: Itadori Tea and Sprouted Peanuts (19)

Foods high in Choline: Egg Yolk, Peanuts, Peanut Butter

Now let's examine the herbs that increase Human Growth Hormone Levels Naturally.

Herbs that naturally increase Human Growth Hormone

Astragalus

In a scientific study titled: "Induction of growth hormone by the roots of Astragalus membranaceus in pituitary cell culture" (20) researchers discovered that Astragalus stimulted the growth of Growth Hormone in rats, compared to the rats that were not given Astragalus.

Testosterone and Human Growth Hormone

Scientific Research has concluded that when Testosterone levels in the body rise, the levels of Human Growth Hormone also increase, as published in a study titled: "Testosterone enhances the effect of growth hormone" (21).  Also healthy levels of testosterone have been linked to improved verbal fluency (21a).

Testosterone and QI Gong

What the ancient masters knew was that if the testicles or ovaries were stimulated, anti aging hormone secretions would increase. This caused lean muscle mass and fat burning. The testes produce testosterone and the ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone.

Do Healthy Levels of Testosterone Have Anti-Aging Effects?

Just as HGH levels decrease when a person ages, so do the levels of Testosterone. In a scientific study titled: "Testosterone for the aging male; current evidence and recommended practice" (21b) researchers discovered that by applying healthy levels of Testosterone to aged males, that they soon began exhibiting increased bone mineral density, increased lean body mass, decreased visceral fat mass, and decreased total cholesterol levels.  This

Herbs that naturally increase Testosterone

Mucuna Pruriens

In a scientific study titled: "Mucuna pruriens Reduces Stress and Improves the Quality of Semen in Infertile Men" (22) researchers showed beneficial results with enhanced sexual behavior when volunteers were given Mucuna Prurien. In another scientific study titled: "Effect of Mucuna pruriens on sexual behavior and sperm parameters in streptozotocin-induced diabetic male rat" (23) showed it to be a strong sexual invigorator when experimented on with rats. In another study done on quail titled: "Mucuna pruriens seed powder feeding influences reproductive conditions and development in Japanese quail Coturnix coturnix japonica" (24) researchers concluded that it boosted testosterone levels.

Herba Epimedii

In a scientific study titled: "Protective effect of total flavonoids of herba epimedii on testis degeneration in diabetic mice" mice that were given Herba Epimedii were shown to have increased testosterone levels. (25) However Herba Epimedii does not stop there, it is a powerful herb for the elderly also.  In Chinese medicine Herba Epimedii is a kidney tonifying herb and has been mixed with the herb Fructus Ligustri Lucidi for thousands of years as a natural treatment for osteoperosis for thousands of years in China. Professor Shizeng Li has used this combination to treat osteoporosis for almost 50 years. This is because both herbs are opposites of one another.  Herba Epimedii is a kidney-YANG tonifying herb and Fructus Ligustri Lucidi is a kidney-YIN tonifying herb.

In a scientific study titled: "Effect of the Combined Extracts of Herba Epimedii and Fructus Ligustri Lucidi on Sex Hormone Functional Levels in Osteoporosis Rats" (26) the researchers concluded that the combination was not only good for reversing osteoperosis, but it also increased sex drive and regulated healthy hormones in the hypothalamic and pituitary gland regions of the brain. And in a study titled: "Effects on herba epimedii and radix Astragali on tumor necrosis factor-alpha and nuclear factor-kappa B in asthmatic rats", (26a)  researchers showed that mixing Astragalus with Herba Epimedii helped reduce the severity of asthma attacks.

Ginkgo Biloba

Gingko is an amazing tree.  It has not changed its DNA since the times dinosaurs roamed the earth. It is one of the few trees that have maintained its original genetic shape for millions of years. Because growth hormones keep us young, could this tree have evolved itself to a stage of evolution that it is now producing HGH not in its genes but on other lifeforms as well? In a scientific study titled: " Ginkgo biloba extract enhances testosterone synthesis of Leydig cells in type 2 diabetic rats" (27), Testosterone levels in rats were increased when the rats were fed extracts of Gingko Biloba. However, in a test involving humans, testosterone levels only increased when Ginkgo Biloba was added with exercise. (28) And when volunteers were given Gingko mixed with Rhodiola, it significantly increased their endurance. (29)

Tribulus Alatus

There have been numerous studies with this herb, many of them concluding that it serves to greatly boost sex drive.  In a scientific experiment titled: "Free serum testosterone level in male rats treated with Tribulus alatus extracts" (30) researchers concluded that rats given Tribulus Alatus herb showed increased testosterone levels. And in a study involving rabbits and rats that had erectile dysfunction (31), Tribulus Alatus was shown to significantly increase sex drive.

To further confirm the effectiveness of HGH, let's look at Quote from Harvard Medical Health

"A team of researchers reviewed 31 high-quality studies that were completed after 1989. They evaluated 220 subjects who received Growth Hormone and 227 control subjects who did not receive growth hormone, the duration of therapy ranged from two to 52 weeks. The varying doses of Growth Hormone succeeded in boosting levels of IGF-1 (a primary mediator of the effects of growth hormone (GH) by 88%."

So in conclusion, having healthy levels of Human Growth Hormone as one gets past age 40 can greatly contribute to our overall health and well being.  You don't need pills or injections either, as more and more scientific studies are showing some great affordable alternatives. I hope this article helps to improve your wellness and longevity!
