A Simple Formula for Reducing Cancer Risk, Increasing Energy and Generating Strong and Healthy Eyes

A Simple Breakfast Formula for Energy and Healthy Eyes

Making oatmeal is a great way to get energy for the day and oatmeal is low in refined carbs; however having oatmeal day after day can get boring and the high calorie content may cause weight gain and if you sweeten it, it may cause a rise in blood sugar if taken too much.  I have been using the following formula with great success. One good breakfast, taken in moderation that will give you energy as well as anti-aging benefits consists of the following -

4 to 5 eggs fried in olive oil
1 cup of water with 8 to 15 drops of Astragalus tincture/extract
After eating the eggs take 1 to 2 handfuls of raw sunflower seeds.

This above combination is packed with amino acids which not only nourishes the body, but also the piturary gland, helping the body to release HGH (Human Growth Hormone) which is a great natural way to give the body energy. It is also good for the eyes.  Why fry the egg? Let's explore why.

According to nutritiondata.com, a fried egg has almost 3 times as much Vitamin A as an omlette. If the eggs is hard boiled, the vitamin A content is double that of a fried egg.

A research study conducted at Ohio State University showed that when tomatoes are cooked, the Lycopene is much more easily absorbed into the body.  This is because the heat restructures the Lycopene molecules in the tomatoes as they become exposed.

A study titled: Digestibility of Cooked and Raw Egg Protein in Humans as Assessed by Stable Isotope Techniques, and published in 1998 in the Journal of Nutrition and conducted by Pieter Evenepoel, and colleagues, found that when eggs are cooked, they are better digested (by a factor of 2); hence more nutrients enter the body intact. This is why it is key to choose natural, cage free organic eggs as more nutrients are available for absorption into the body.

As for cooking the eggs it seems best to cook them sunny side up or over easy eggs or doing a combination of both to receive the full range of benefits. These options give you the most nutritional, antioxidant and protein absorption overall.

A study found that the absorption of beta-carotene was 6.5 times greater in stir-fried carrots than in raw carrots. Carrots happen to contain high levels of vitamin A and they also contain lycopene.  It just may be that the heat is increasing the Vitamin A, much like tomatoes fried in oil have a similar effect.

Nutrients in Egg Yolks

One egg yolk contains approximately 0.25 mg of lutein and zeaxanthin.  This may not seem like a lot, however it is the composition of the egg yolk that makes it extremely beneficial for the eyes.  This is because the composition of the egg yolk is in a form that is highly absorbable by the body.  Its composition is in a nearly ideal form in such a manner that the body can take almost all of it in.

To increase the absorption even more, frying the eggs in Olive Oil will help the body absorb the lutein because lutein is an oil-soluble compound.

A Note on Raw Eggs

When you eat eggs raw, it is key to find a high-quality source of the eggs because "factory farmed" eggs may cause foodborne illness. It is best to select eggs from organically-raised and pastured hens, also free-range eggs can contain higher levels of nutrients overall.

Astragalus

In a large scale study published in 2011 in the Life Sciences Journal titled: Glaucoma Treatment with the Extract of Astragalus Membranaceus in Rats Experimental Model and conducted by Chi-Ting Horng and colleagues, the study concluded that Astragalus extract may decrease the MDA production (oxidative stress) and restore GPx levels ((Glutathione peroxidase)) in the periocular blood (the eyes). This extremely beneficial effect may be by the same as that of brimonidine (a medical drug). Furthermore, Astragalus Extract also showed the ability to significantly lower IOP as is the case with brimonidine and acetazolamide (both drugs).

So in summary, Astragalus Extract may be as effective as a standard glaucoma drug medication.

Astragalus boosts energy

A study titled: Effects of the main active components combinations of Astragalus and Panax notoginseng on energy metabolism in brain tissues after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion in mice, published in October 2015 and conducted by XP. Huang and colleagues concluded that a combination of Astragalus and Ginseng improved the energy metabolism in rats.

Astragalus is Anti-Cancer

A study titled Anti-tumor effects of Astragalus on hepatocellular carcinoma in vivo and published in Feb 2012 and conducted by Li Lian-Kun and colleagues found that Astragalus contains compounds that fight and prevent cancer.

Sunflower Seeds reduce Breast Cancer Risk

A study titled The association between dietary lignans, phytoestrogen-rich foods, and fiber intake and postmenopausal breast cancer risk: a German case-control study, conducted by AL Zaineddin and colleagues that was published in May 2012 found that sunflower seeds were associated with a significantly reduced risk of breast cancer.

There is limited scientific evidence linking the intake of eggs to an increased risk of cancer. In a study that was published in 2009 titled Egg consumption and the risk of cancer: a multisite case-control study in Uruguay and conducted by D. Aune and colleagues, the study found that a high intake of eggs increased the risk of several cancers.  Sufnlower Seeds and Eggs are also an excellent source of protein

So in summary a limited diet of eggs combined with the anti-cancer foods such as Astragalus and sunflower seeds not only contribute to more energy, but provide a lower risk of cancer compared to obtaining energy from eating foods high in refined carbohydrates.

Olive Oil Increases the Absorption of Carotenoids

In one of my earlier articles titled: Why people born during fall live longer then people born at other times of the year. Exploring the Tao for the Answers I show that Olive Oil was the prime reason the 2 women and 1 man lived to over 100 years of age.

In a study published in November 2000, titled: Consumption of tomato products with olive oil but not sunflower oil increases the antioxidant activity of plasma., and conducted by A. Lee and colleagues, the study concluded   that consumption of tomato products with olive oil but not with sunflower oil improves the antioxidant activity of the plasma.

Olive Oil Contains healthy levels of Lutein and Beta-Carotene

Lutein and Beta-Carotene are important ingredients for healthy eyesight. In a study published in November 2002 titled; Identification and quantitation of major carotenoids in selected components of the Mediterranean diet: green leafy vegetables, figs and olive oil, and conducted by Q. Sw and colleagues, the study concluded that Extra virgin cold-pressed olive oil contained substantial quantities of lutein and beta-carotene, but the more-refined 'extra light' olive oil did not.

Frying Tomatoes in Olive Oil increases the absorption of lycopene

In a research study, blood lycopene levels were shown to increase to 80% more when people consumed tomatoes that had been fried in olive oil.

What is Lycopene?

Lycopene is a bright red carotene and carotenoid pigment and phytochemical that exists in tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables, such as red carrots.

Formulas without Beta Carotene for Healthy Eyes Work Better

A study published in May of 2013 on the NIH website titled: NIH study provides clarity on supplements for protection against blinding eye disease concluded that carotenoids can compete with one another for their absorption in the body.  In testing out eye improvement formulas, they found that beta-carotene may mask the beneficial effects in a eye healing formula involving lutein and zeaxanthin,

So in summary, it is best to fry the eggs in only a small amount of Olive Oil because the beta carotene in the olive oil may reduce the absorption of the lutein in the eggs.

Breakfast Cereals and Carbohydrates

Many of us take way too many refined carbohydrates in our diet because we feel it gives us "extra energy" and a "full and satisified feeling" of "fullness".

What are Refined Carbohydrates?

Refined carbohydrates are plant foods that have been so overly processed that the whole grain has been completely extracted during processing.  This is done mainly to preserve the shelf life of the product.

There are a large number of energy bars and drinks available today. Some taste good some taste not so good. Also some may contain caffeine or sugar and at times we may feel that we have too much sugar in our body or that excess caffeine may contribute to migraines or a caffeine withdrawal.

In a large scale scientific study titled: Dietary intakes of carbohydrates in relation to prostate cancer risk: a prospective study in the Malmö Diet and Cancer cohort, published in Dec 2012 and conducted by L. Drake and colleagues, the study concluded that that a high intake of refined carbohydrates may be associated with increased risk of prostate cancer.

The most commonly consumed refined carbohydrates include: cakes, cookies, pie, candy, chips white bread, white rice and pasta.  One very interesting note is that breakfast cereals marketed as a "way to get your energy for the day" are packed with refined carbohydrates (P.K. Newby et al. February 2009).  Many of the sugary, cold cereals found in grocery stores are considered to be refined grains. They are typically made from enriched flour due to the refining of their original wheat, corn or oat grain. Many of these breakfast cereals have 2 or fewer grams of fiber each serving.  What is even more interesting is that only 1 cup of a refined cereal, such as corn flakes, has up to an 1 ounce of refined grains.

So in closing,  a simple breakfast of the right combination of foods can be one of the most nourishing
