Why people born during fall live longer then people born at other times of the year. Exploring the Tao for the Answers
Being a student of the Tao and the author of 2 published books of the Tao, I want to show in this article how to interpret the scientific findings of why people born during fall live longer and how we can use the Tao to understand the answers. TCM, also called Traditional Chinese Medicine, a method of healing used for thousands of years by the Chinese utilizes many concepts of the Tap to simplify the diagnosis of disease and fond the best course of healing without harsh drugs. This article is just one example of how the Tao can be used to find connections and relationships visible in science data. This article will use verified scientific research studies and their findings and blend it with the wisdom of the Tao.
A recently published study (Lifespan depends on month of birth. Gabriele Doblhammer and James W. Vaupel. Sept 2000) stated that people born during fall lived longer lives, compared to people born at other times of the year.
Why is this so? Let's look to the Tao for answers.
Regions of the world that have lifespans longer then average are Hawaii and Minnesota. (source Wikipedia).
As well as the Nicoya Peninsula. (Scientific Study - The Nicoya region of Costa Rica: a high longevity island for elderly males).
By examining the Tao chart shown below we see that the lungs influence the kidneys. In Tao teachings, the kidneys store "Jing Essence" which is the life force of the body. Essence is otherwise known as CHI or LIFE-FORCE, and is commonly referenced to in the martial arts; here it is used to enhance physical strength and for protection from brute force impacts during fights. Therefore healthy air is related to strong 'essence'. The season represented by the lungs is fall/autumn and the lungs influence the kidneys.
The next chart shows that the lungs are a metal element and the kidneys are a water element. Seasonally the lungs are most active during fall/autumn.
The hour of day the kidneys are most active is between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the lungs are most active between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.
The Seasonal Energy of CHI
As shown in the chart earlier, people born during Fall are termed "metal elements". You can learn more about how to find your element in my book Eternal Youth via Tao Te Ching. Longevity Secrets via Universal Energy.
There are 4 elements in all, each with its own seasonal cycle of CHI energy which peaks during that season. It just so happens the CHI of metal (lungs), peaks during the season of fall. For water elements the peak in CHI is winter; for the element wood the peak is spring; for fire the CHI peak is summer and for Metal, the peak is Fall. You can find these seasonal peaks for yourself in my 2017 Almanac titled 2017 Feng Shui Planetary Prosperity Almanac and Ephemeris with Organizer.
One method among many to tap into this "CHI" is by the regular practice of QI Gong or Tai Chi. These exercises always place extreme importance on utilizing proper breathing techniques to achieve the best results. I personally use the Emerald Tablets Exercise, which is a type of ancient Egyptian QI Gong. I have also documented my experiences from practicing the exercise over the last decade and put them into a book. It just so happens the peaks of the CHI energy occur during Fall. This could be because I am a metal element, or it could be just a yearly seasonal pattern.
So by examining the traits and attributes of the METAL element we can create a guide-map that will lead us on the path to longevity. Let's examine a couple more charts of the Tao for more clues.
In the Tao chart titled: "5 Phase Yin-Yang Correspondences", we see that the herbs Ginseng and Astragalus are represented and that they are cooling herbs.
Astragalus has been scientifically proven to lengthen telomeres (Functional Assessment of Pharmacological Telomerase Activators in Human T cells. Brenda Molgora et al. Jan 2013). Research has shown that the longer your telomores are, the longer your lifespan (Masood A. Shammas. Jan 2011). Ginseng also has similar qualities (Jae Joon Wee, Kyeong Mee Park, and An-Sik Chung. Herbal Medicine: Biomolecular and Clinical Aspects. 2nd edition).
And an excellent article published by Josh Mitteldorf showing the documented experiences by Jim Green of Wichita Kansas who has turned back the clock of aging just by taking an extract of Astragalus.
In the next chart titled: "Master Chart of Yin/Yang and the Elements", we see that metal is represented by Spicy/Pungent foods. It is a scientifically proven fact that spices rank the highest in antioxidants.
The below chart is courtesy of The total antioxidant content of more than 3100 foods, beverages, spices, herbs and supplements used worldwide. Monica H Carlsen et al. Jan 2010.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2841576/
The above chart shows that herbs, beverages and spices contain the highet levels of ingredients that fight free radicals assoicated with aging. As far as individual spices go, the spices Clove and Cinnamon have the highest antioxidant rating (ORAC - Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) out of all known foods as shown in the below chart.
Clove and Cinnamon also significantly reduce anti-inflammatory activity (L. Baker and M. EL. Chohan December 2013) in the body. Long Term excessive inflammation is a cause of major aging (Bente K Pedersen. Dec 2009).
Numerous research studies have confirmed a link between foods high in antioxidants that fight free radicals and help combat aging (Domenico Fusco et al. Sept 2007, (Khalid Rahman. June 2007) and (Lien Ai Pham-Huy et al. June 2008).
In Short Summary -
Cinnamon and Clove have both been scientifically proven to help fight aging by inhibiting glycation (a major contributor to aging) (Paraskevi Gkogkolou and Markus Böhm. July 2012) and Astragalus has been scientifically proven to fight free radicals (B.W. Sheng et al. Jan 2000).
The Lungs and Aging
The capacity of the lungs to remove contamination and create a healthy flow of oxygen fades as a person ages. The lung's peak performance is around 25 years of age.
People born during fall are breathing in an environment represented by metal.
Regular practice of QI Gong, Tai Chi or similiar exercises has already been scientifically proven to keep the lungs healthy. In an excellent scientific research study titled: Tai chi Qigong improves lung functions and activity tolerance in COPD clients: a single blind, randomized controlled trial, and conducted by A.W. Chan and colleagues and published in February 2011 concluded at the end of the study that Tai chi Qigong improved respiratory functions and that the breathing and walking exercise maintained lung functions and slow down disease progression. Another remarkable feature of practicing QI Gong or Tai Chi is that it has been scientifically proven to increase Human Growth Hormone (H. Ryu et al. July 2000). It is a well confirmed scientific fact, backed up by hundreds of research studies that healthy human growth hormone levels can reverse aging.
Seasonal Variation of Pollution
Because we now have confirmed a link between lungs and aging/health, could there exist a seasonal variation of air pollution where during some seasons such as Summer there is more air pollution compared to Fall where there may be less air pollution? Let's look at the scientific facts for clues.
In a scientific research study conducted in April of 2013 in one of the most polluted countries on earth, China, a study titled: Seasonal variation in the acute effect of particulate air pollution on mortality in the China Air Pollution and Health Effects Study (CAPES) and conducted by Penjie Chen and colleagues the study concluded that the months of Winter and Summer contained the highest levels of air pollution with Spring and Fall having the lowest rates of pollution in the air.
So if spring shows a low of pollution there must be an additional element that is contributing to longevity. Fall is when temperatures are seasonally cooler. A study published in March 2008 titled: Cooling core body temperature may slow down neurodegeneration, and conducted by A.J. Salerian and N.G. Salen showed that cooler temperatures may be associated with a longer lifespan. Minnesota is a cool climate, while in Hawaii the outdoor temperature never rises above 90 degrees any day of the year with similiar mild temperatures occuring in Costa Rica.
Simple Summary -
It may be cooling temperatures after a period of dry heat combined with clean air that enhances lifespan.
Outdoor air is seasonally cleaner during Fall and according to the Tao, the element of METAL, which represents the lungs, are stimulated during Fall. Also the Tao shows us that the foods represented by the element METAL are foods that fight free radicals. This means having a healthy supply of antioxidants in the diet can also prolong lifespan.
So would there be cases where a person who practiced QI Gong/Tai Chi and ate herbs that created strong healthy lungs, wouldn't there be documented cases of a person having lived a longer then average lifespan? It just so happens that Mr. Li Chung Yun who practiced a form of QI Gong known as Bagua. Some reports state he was the inventor of Nine Dragon Baguazhang, another form of advanced QI Gong, although this has yet to be confirmed.
Mr. Li Chung Yun also consumed a lot of the herb known as polygonum multiflorum root. Other names this herb is known by are fo ti and he shou wu. So does the herb polygonum multiflorum root affect the lungs in a beneficial way?
Let's take a look at the scientific literature to find out.
The first study published in 2016 titled: Polygonum multiflorum Decreases Airway Allergic Symptoms in a Murine Model of Asthma, and conducted by C.C. Lee and associates found that Polygonum multiflorum decreased asthma when adminstered to mice.
The second study published in September 2011 titled: Pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of 2,3,5,4'-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-β-D-glucoside from traditional Chinese medicine Polygonum multiflorum following oral administration to rats, and conducted by G. Lv and associates concluded that after rats consumed Polygonum multiflorum, it showed greatest absorption by the lungs and liver.
Simple Summary
So in summary practicing QI Gong, Tai Chi or similar exercises combined with herbs that benefit the lungs may be a prescription for a longer then average lifespan.
FO TI Side Effects
Dried FO TI is slightly toxic to the liver and a really effective laxative. Excessive amounts or improperly prepared FO TI may cause a recurrence of hepatitis, liver disease, skin rashes, numbness or in women, excess estrogen levels.
Additional Herbs that benefit the lungs include: Astragalus, Asparagus Root, Codonopsis, Cordydepts, Ginseng, Gynostemma Leaf, Rhiodiola Rosea. It just so happens that many of these herbs are anti-aging herbs.
Solar Activity affects Lifespan
It is also interesting to note that the same seasonal pattern of clean air also follows the same pattern of UV peaks. A research study published in April 2015 titled: Seasonal Variation in Exposure Level of Types A and B Ultraviolet Radiation: An Environmental Skin Carcinogen, and conducted by A. Rafieepour and colleagues found that UV levels peaked in March and September. Could this mean pointing giant UV lights at the sky clear the air of pollution? Research studies need to be done to confirm this. Also UV is commonly used as a disinfectant to kill bad bacteria.
Another cycle period that people live longer is people born during solar minimums (a time where there are fewer solar flares).
A study titled: Solar activity at birth predicted infant survival and women's fertility in historical Norway and conducted by ne Roll Skjærvø and collegues and published in February 2015 found that on average, the lifespans of women and men born during solar maximum were 5.1 and 5.3 years shorter then people born during quiet solar activity. This finding is not just attributed to Norway, but was also proven in an American study titled: The effect of solar cycles on human lifespan in the 50 United states: variation in light affects the human genome and conducted by W. E. Lowell and G.E. Davis Jr and published in July 2010.
Simple Summary -
During cycles of quiet solar activity, it would be a good time to take foods and do exercises, especially QI Gong exercises to focus on creating strong and healthy lungs. This could mean that the body's immune system is stronger during solar minimums, allowing it to have more power to overcome infection. Because over-exercise has been shown to deplete the strength of the immune system (L. Lakier Smith 2003), times when the immune system is stronger such as cycles of solar minimums and quiet solar activity are a good time to exercise a little harder than usual. This would cause positive changes such as increased strength and resistance to disease over a longer period of time, mirroring the genetic effect that person's born during lower solar activity live longer.
As the chart below shows, the last solar maximums were the year 2000 (it appears the millenniums will have shorter lifespans than average) and 2013 and 2014. From 2018 to 2019 we are looking at another solar minimum.

Using the Charts of the Tao
The charts of the Tao are an excellent tool that can be used to plot, chart and organize information in a coherrent and organized fashion especially for science where a large amount of data may look random, yet the Tao can help us find the valid connections we are seeking. Tao charts are also valuable for revealing clues to a pattern that we may have Identified or trend we are following. My 2016 publication Eternal Youth via Tao Te Ching. Longevity Secrets via Universal Energy has more then 30 charts of the Tao with complete instructions on how to use them. It includes thousand year old Tao charts as well as the latest Tao charts all in one easy to use reference.
Thank you for reading and I hope this sheds some light on how to use Tao charts for health, prosperity and wellness.
